Salvatore Balsamo (Naples, July 21, 1894 – Naples, June 15, 1922) was an Italian painter, active mainly in Naples. Despite his short life, Balsamo left a mark on the Neapolitan artistic scene of the early twentieth century, standing out for his vibrant style and his ability to capture the scene of popular life.

Born in Naples in 1894, Balsamo was artistically trained under the guidance of Vincenzo Irolli, a well-known Neapolitan painter specialized in genre scenes. Irolli's influence is evident in Balsamo's early works, characterized by picturesque realism and a particular attention to the details of everyday life.
His works depict scenes of Neapolitan popular life, with characters caught in moments of everyday life, such as markets, crowded streets, and family scenes.
Use a palette of bright and vibrant colors that help create a joyful and sunny atmosphere.
"His brushstroke is loose and confident, with a light touch that gives liveliness to his works."
In addition to the influence of his teacher Irolli, one can notice the influence of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painting, especially regarding the use of light and color.
Balsamo's career was unfortunately interrupted by his premature death, which occurred at the age of only 28 in 1922. Despite his brief artistic activity, Balsamo created a significant number of works that testify to his talent and originality.
