Gio Ponti was an Italian architect and designer born in Milan in 1891. He is considered one of the most important figures of Italian design of the 20th century. Ponti has worked in several fields, including architecture, furniture design, product design and graphic design. He was also a prolific writer and editor and in 1928 founded the influential design magazine Domus.
Ponti's work is characterized by its elegance, simplicity and use of modern materials. He was a pioneer of Italian modernism and his work helped shape the look of post-war Italian design. Among Ponti's most famous works are the Pirelli Skyscraper in Milan (1956), the Superleggera chair (1957) and the Ponti Apartment in Milan (1957).
