Delft pottery, also known as "Delftware" or "Delft Blue", is a type of Dutch earthenware that reached its peak popularity between the 17th and 18th centuries.
Delftware is inspired by blue and white Chinese porcelain, which was highly valued in Europe in the 17th century. The potters of Delft sought to imitate the appearance of Chinese porcelain by using tin-glazed earthenware. This technique was introduced to the Netherlands from Italy in the 16th century.

Delftware is typically characterized by cobalt blue on a white background, although other colors were also used.
The decorations include floral motifs, landscapes, biblical scenes, and oriental figures.

The production involved several stages, including clay modeling, firing, glazing, and decoration.
The glazing with tin oxide gives the ceramic its characteristic opaque white color.
