Delftware, also known as "Delftware" or "Delft Blue," is a type of Dutch maiolica that reached its peak popularity between the 17th and 18th centuries.
Delftware is inspired by Chinese blue and white porcelain, which was highly prized in Europe in the 17th century. Delft potters sought to imitate the appearance of Chinese porcelain using maiolica, a ceramic coated with tin glaze. This technique was introduced to the Netherlands from Italy in the 16th century.

Delftware is typically characterized by cobalt blue color on a white background, although other colors were also used.
The decorations include floral patterns, landscapes, biblical scenes, and oriental figures.

The production involved several stages, including clay modeling, firing, glazing, and decoration.
The tin oxide glazing gives the ceramic its characteristic matte white color.
