Daniele Ranzoni (Intra, 1843-1889) was one of the leading figures of the Scapigliatura, an Italian artistic and literary movement of the second half of the 19th century that rebelled against academicism and bourgeois values, expressing a deep existential malaise and a search for a new artistic sensibility.

Born in Intra, on Lake Maggiore, Ranzoni would show a strong aptitude for painting from a young age. He trained at the Accademia di Brera and the Accademia Albertina in Turin, coming into contact with the new artistic trends of his time.

"His work is characterized by a strong emotional charge, an attention to the psychological details of his subjects, and a skillful use of light and shadow. His paintings are often dark and melancholic, reflecting the tormented soul of the artist and the spirit of the Scapigliatura."

La Scapigliatura, an artistic and literary movement that developed in Lombardy in the second half of the nineteenth century, was characterized by rebellion against academic standards, the exaltation of individualism, and a deep sensitivity to social issues. Ranzoni, along with artists such as Tranquillo Cremona, Eugenio Gignous, and Medardo Rosso, was one of the major exponents of this movement.
