Paolo Sala (Milan, 1859 – 1924) was one of the most important Italian landscape painters of his generation. His works, characterized by intense light and rapid, vibrant brushwork, capture the beauty of Italian nature, from lakes to cities, from fields to mountains.

Sala was a master in representing light. His landscapes are often bathed in golden light, which enhances the vibrant colors of nature. His brushstroke, fast and loose, allowed him to capture the essence of a place and transmit it onto the canvas with great immediacy.

Sala was fascinated by Italian lakes, which he depicted at different times of day and in different seasons. The artist also loved to paint scenes of daily life in the countryside, with farmers at work and animals.
He also created numerous city views, capturing the atmosphere of the squares and alleys.

During his lifetime, Sala enjoyed great success with both critics and the public. His works were highly appreciated by collectors and were exhibited in the most important exhibitions. He also founded the Lombard association of watercolourists, demonstrating his great passion for this painting technique.
