Roberto Crippa (1921-1972) was an Italian painter, sculptor and aviator. He is considered one of the most important figures of Italian abstract art of the 20th century.

Crippa's early works were influenced by Surrealism and Abstract Expressionism. He experimented with various techniques, including collage and assemblage.

In the 1950s Crippa developed his iconic "Totem" series. These works are characterized by abstract shapes, bright colors and the use of mixed media.
Multi-material works: In the 1960s, Crippa began to incorporate a variety of materials into his sculptures, including wood, metal, and found objects.
In the 1970s Crippa became interested in Mail Art, creating and exchanging works of art through the postal system.

Crippa's work is highly regarded for its innovative approach, bold use of color and expressive power. His influence can be seen in the work of many contemporary artists.

Tragically, Crippa died in a plane crash in 1972 while training for the World Aerobatics Championships.
