Fabergé refers to the renowned House of Fabergé, a company of Russian jewelers and craftsmen known for creating intricate and luxurious Fabergé eggs. The company was founded in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1842 by Gustav Fabergé, and subsequently continued by his son, Peter Carl Fabergé.

Fabergé eggs are perhaps the Maison's most iconic and celebrated creations. These were decorated and jeweled eggs made for the Russian imperial family and other wealthy clients. The first imperial Fabergé egg was commissioned by Tsar Alexander III in 1885 as an Easter gift for his wife, Empress Maria Feodorovna. The tradition continued under his son, Nicholas II, who gave Fabergé eggs to his mother and wife every Easter.

Each Fabergé egg is a work of art, typically crafted from precious metals such as gold or silver and adorned with precious stones, enamel and intricate details. The eggs often cracked open to reveal a surprise inside, such as a miniature mechanical model, a piece of jewelry, or other precious objects.

The House of Fabergé has become internationally renowned for its exceptional craftsmanship and creativity. Unfortunately, the company's success was short-lived, as it faced challenges during the Russian Revolution of 1917. The Bolsheviks nationalized the company, leading to the closure of the House of Fabergé in 1918. Peter Carl Fabergé fled Russia and the family business they finished.

Today, Fabergé eggs are highly sought after by collectors and the Fabergé name remains synonymous with exquisite craftsmanship and luxury. There have been attempts to revive the brand, and modern companies have created Fabergé-inspired jewelry and objects, but the original pieces made by the House of Fabergé in the late 19th and early 20th centuries are considered invaluable and are housed in museums and private collections around the world.
