Ceramiche Mollica represents one of the most important and long-standing manufacturers of Neapolitan ceramics. Founded in 1842 by Giovanni Mollica, this dynasty of ceramists has left an indelible mark on the Italian artistic landscape, producing works of great beauty and refinement.
The origin of the Mollica manufacturing dates back to the mid-19th century, when Giovanni Mollica, son of a ceramist from the Real Fabbrica Ferdinandea and the Giustiniani, decided to start his own business.
The workshop, initially located on Via Santa Lucia in Naples, stands out for its quality, especially in the figures and models made of red terracotta.
Under the guidance of Giovanni's sons, Ciro, Achille, and Alessandro, the Mollica manufacturing reached national fame by the end of the nineteenth century, becoming one of the most important in southern Italy.
The figures represented are often portraits of historical characters or scenes of everyday life, created with great realism and attention to detail.
The Mollica ceramics are characterized by a rich and vibrant color range, achieved through the use of high-quality pigments.
The processing is always favored with traditional ceramic techniques, such as hand modeling and brush decoration.
The works of Mollica resonate with the influence of various artistic currents, from classicism to neoclassicism, up to Art Nouveau.
