Biedermeier is was an artistic movement that developed between 1815 and 1848. The term initially spread as a derogatory term. Consisting of two words: the adjective bieder, simpleton and Meier, one of the most common German surnames. The term was intended to indicate the conservative petty bourgeois, concerned with his own realityhas familiar.

Defined as the Restoration style, it was born in contrast to the Empire Style and its pompous lines. The aim is to enhance sobriety and harmony.

The advent of the Industrial Revolution plays a decisive role in style, offering functional products with simple lines, easily manufactured. This trend is found in architecture, furniture, music and literature. The atmosphere it creates is sober, full of everyday elements.

Biedermeier introduces the use of carpets, curtains and new types of furniture, as well as the diffusion of fine materials such as mahogany and cherry. Military symbolism was banned in favor of naturalistic figures and geometric shapes. Among the compositions that characterize the style we find floral ones.  The proportions soften, and the decorations become more minimal and elegant. The comfort it was the prerogative of Biedermeier furnishings: armchairs and sofas were characterized by light and solid-coloured padding.

Alltoday Biedermeier products are in great demand, especially ornaments, silverware, crockery and crystal glasses from theBiedermeier era.
