Oil painting on canvas of an urban landscape, created by Romano Conversano in the '70s
Ø cm 50 h cm 60 including frame
Romano Conversano (Rovigno d'Istria, 1920 – Milan, 2010) was an Italian painter.
He trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice and after World War II lived for some years in Rovereto, where he enlivened the city's cultural life. In 1980 he was appointed a member of the Accademia degli Agiati of Rovereto.
Initially, his painting was tonal, with sober colors; later he moved to more vivid colors, often depicting landscapes, particularly Venice and Puglia (where he bought the Castle of Peschici, turning it into his studio), female portraits (with a contrast between "Women of Today" and "Ancient Puglia"), and flowers. His painting technique was varied, using the brush but also spreading the color with his hands.
In 1974 he received the Ambrogino d'oro from the Municipality of Milan. Peschici awarded him honorary citizenship.
He exhibited his works in Italy and abroad (England, America, Paris, Geneva). He participated in the Venice Biennale and the Rome Quadriennale. His works are present in collections such as the Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Milan and the Cariplo Foundation. His works can also be found in auctions and online art galleries.
