The son of an artist (his father was the renowned Attilio Pratella, and his brother Paolo was also a painter), Fausto succeeded in carving out a prominent role for himself not merely as the heir to an important name, but as a poetic interpreter of Mediterranean light. While his father Attilio was the master of views teeming with life and marked contrasts, Fausto chose a more understated path; his painting lies within the tradition of late Impressionism. His brushstrokes are less fragmented than his father’s, tending to create more homogeneous surfaces and almost suspended atmospheres.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHis palette is delicate, dominated by dusty blues, pearly grays, and pastel tones. He was a painter of “half-light,” capable of capturing the moisture in the air above the sea or the quiet of a sunny afternoon. Compared with nineteenth-century Neapolitan painting, Fausto’s works are often more solitary.
