Aldo Londi (1911-2003) was a key figure in 20th-century Italian ceramics, and his name is inseparably linked to Bitossi Ceramiche. He dedicated over fifty years of his life to the company, first as artistic director and then as a key collaborator, transforming Bitossi into a globally recognized name in modern design ceramics.

Born in Montelupo Fiorentino, an area with a deep ceramic tradition, Londi began working with ceramics at the young age of 11. This early immersion in craftsmanship, combined with his natural artistic sensitivity and tireless drive for experimentation, allowed him to develop a unique and expressive ceramic language.

After being a prisoner of war in South Africa during World War II, Londi returned to Italy and, in 1946, was appointed Artistic Director of the Cav. G. Bitossi & Figli manufactory. This marked the beginning of a legendary collaboration that would last over half a century. Under Londi's direction, Bitossi underwent a significant transformation, moving from more traditional production to embracing modern design. His expertise and willingness to experiment with new materials, techniques, and colors were decisive in this evolution. He is credited with designing over 1,000 objects for Bitossi, ranging from vases and pitchers to clocks and charming animal figurines. Many of his creations are still in production today and are highly sought after by collectors.

Aldo Londi's most famous and enduring contribution to Bitossi is undoubtedly the Rimini Blu collection, produced continuously since 1959. This iconic series is immediately recognizable by several key features: the pieces are characterized by a rich multilayer blue and turquoise glaze, often evoking the play of light on the sea's surface. The ceramic surfaces are decorated with intricate hand-engraved patterns and marks. These abstract-geometric elements create a whimsical and tactile texture. The collection includes a wide range of shapes, including vases of various forms (spherical, spool-shaped, two-part), bowls, ashtrays, umbrella stands, and a beloved series of animal figures (cats, horses, birds, rams, bulls, fish).

It is said that the name "Rimini Blu" pays tribute to the Romagna Riviera, a popular tourist destination.
