Achille Cattaneo (1872-1931) was an Italian painter, known for his urban views of Milan and Venice, as well as church interiors. He was born in Limbiate in 1872 and began to frequent the drawing and architecture courses at the Brera Academy in Milan between 1888 and 1896, where he was a student of Emilio Gola. He mainly dedicated himself to painting views, in particular interiors of Milanese and Venetian churches, and glimpses of the Navigli andexhibited for the first time at the Society of Fine Arts of Milan in 1900. He achieved notoriety in the 1920s: in 1925 he held a personal exhibition at the Bottega di Poesia and approached the Novecento Italiano movement, participating in the First Exhibition of the Novecento Italiano in Milan in 1926. He died in Milan in 1931.

His painting is characterized by a rapid and nervous brushstroke, which captures the light and atmosphere of the places represented. His colors are often lively and bright, with a predilection for yellow, red and blue tones. His works are permeated by a poetic and nostalgic vein, which celebrates the beauty of the city of Milan and the Veneto.

Achille Cattaneo is considered one of the most important Italian urban landscape painters of the early twentieth century. His works are preserved in museums and private collections in Italy and abroad. Even today, his painting is appreciated for its freshness and immediacy, and for his ability to capture the soul of the places represented.
