Giovanni Gariboldi (1908-1971) ranks among the most influential figures in the history of Italian decorative arts, starting his career at the age of just 18 when in 1926 he became an apprentice model maker under the guidance of master Gio Ponti. Years later, in the modern and changing post-war society, Gariboldi takes the helm of Ginori 1735 as Artistic Director. During his stay at the Manufacture, Gariboldi embarked on an artistic journey, rewriting the codes of porcelain art, in an intertwining of aesthetics and technique, beauty and utility, daily life and design. His love for functionality, his direct experience in production and his demanding artistic expression define a new modernity in the use of porcelain. Thanks to his interest in functionality and sincerity of forms and his ability to interpret the desires and needs of a new modern society, Gariboldi left a great legacy as one of the most influential figures of Italian modernism and decorative arts. A prolific artist and creator for over 50 years, Gariboldi has created hundreds of products for Ginori, all with a keen eye for reinterpreting the past and creating the future.
