The foundation of the Imperial Porcelain Manufactory in Vienna is due to the Holy Roman Emperor Charles VI, eager to rival the already renowned Meissen manufactories in Germany. In 1718, with the help of experts from Meissen, the Viennese factory opened its doors, giving rise to an era of splendor for Austrian porcelain.
